Gold Rush: To the Road We GO!

Chapter 2: To the Road We Go!

As the sun pooled in from the windows and shone on my face, I grumbled in my sleep, turning to hide my face from the bright light. I rolled into Envy’s chest, nuzzling my face into his shirt to keep the sun out of my eyes. I was too comfortable. I didn't want to wake up at all. This bed, it was big enough for the both of us but not big enough for us to have space between us. That’s fine because Envy likes to cuddle when we go to sleep.

The warm sun would've lulled me back to sleep if it wasn't for Envy letting out the loudest yawn imaginable. I groaned, rolling away from him and into the corner where the back doors of the bus were. He chuckled under his breath, reaching an arm over and ruffling my hair. “Stop!” I whined, weakly pushing his arm away as I tried to further roll into the corner.

“C’mon, doll. Wake up,” he started poking me all over, my face, my sides, any part of my skin he could reach. I turned to face him and slapped his hands away, glaring at him.

“Envy! Stop, let me sleep!” With that, I pulled the covers over me and turned back into the corner. He stifled a chuckle but besides that left me alone.

That is until the covers were dragged off of me. “Env!-” I didn't get the word out before I was literally dragged out of bed and tossed onto his shoulder. I grunted at the impact, the air all but knocked out of my lungs. He chuckled at my expense, carrying me out of the bus. I simply allowed him to carry me out, I mean I couldn't have done anything anyway he's too strong.

“We gotta pack our shit, doll. I want to leave this dump as soon as possible.” Envy admitted, carrying me up the stairs and to our apartment.

I noticed that we hadn't even locked the door let alone closed it, “Envy! What if we were robbed?!” I started struggling in his hold, wanting to be put down now. He noticed and gently set me onto my feet and I took off into the house, making sure our belongings were accounted for.

“It's fine, doll! We even went to sleep with the bus unlocked,” he boasted, as if that made it any better.

“Envy! Stop speaking right now, you're giving me a headache and it's too early in the morning for this.” I held up a hand to silence him, the more of our carelessness he revealed the more my worry-bug brain got to doing what it does best.

Envy chuckled and mimed zipping his lips. I rolled my eyes at his childishness and continued my search, now checking the special places in our clothes drawers where we hid our important documents. Thankfully everything was still here and not moved.

I sighed, running my hands through my hair as I tried to calm myself down. Everything was accounted for. Nothing was stolen. There's no reason to lose my mind over this. I opened my eyes, turning to Envy, “So what all are we going to bring?” I asked.

Envy placed a finger on his chin and hummed thoughtfully, his brows furrowed. I rolled my eyes at the theatrics, a slight smile on my face. “Only the essentials, we don't need that much shit since the bus isn't that big.” He decided, bringing his arms to fold across his chest.

I rolled my eyes again, “That's vague, but I get it.” I moved towards the bedroom, “I'm gonna be the one stressing if we have everything, I might as well do the packing and shit,” I mused. Envy laughed at what I said and I merely flicked him off as I left the living area.

From the bedroom I packed our most worn clothes, hygiene products, hair products, makeup, nail products, as well as the select few plushies I had sprawled about. During the entire time I'd send out a section for Envy to put in the bus before moving on.

After the bedroom I moved to the bathroom, taking all of the toiletries, all the towels, my loofa collection, as well as all the bathroom decor. Besides the bathroom and the bedroom, there wasn't much else we needed to bring. Of course I took all the food we had from the kitchen, which wasn't much, but it was a start. We'd probably have to go shopping and stick up once we knew what we needed.

During the packing, I made note of what we had and what we didn't, making note on what we needed to buy before we officially head out. I trusted Envy in putting away our items on the bus. He decorated and designed the dang thing, he could be trusted with putting things away. Besides, he knew how the storage areas worked better than I do since he renovated the bus.

It was in the afternoon when Envy came back to the apartment, trying to convince me we had all we'd ever need and more. “Fer-bear,” he groaned, practically flopping his entire body into me, it was unannounced and I almost fell. Luckily the kitchen counter was there for me to hold onto, “You've packed enough! Let's hit the road! I wanna drive!” He could be such a baby when he made up his mind. I pushed him off of me, glaring at him lightly.

“Envy! I want to make sure we have everything we need before we go. I don't want us to forget a single thing and end up needing it when we're out there. What if we're miles away from civilization and we need soap or something? I'm not going a day without showering Envy!” I whined, getting angrier at the fact that Envy was laughing at me. “Stop laughing at me, I'm serious!” I yelled, punching him in the shoulder lightly. He simply laughed harder, doubling over slightly. I screamed in anger, not even caring about the neighbors - we’ll be leaving soon anyways. I lunged at him, throwing punches at him which practically bounced off of him. It only made me hit harder.

“Your punches are so soft!” Envy mocked in between laughter. I kicked him in the calf which drew a surprised grunt from him but it didn't down him. “Even your kicks are soft too!” He yelled, dodging a swing from me.

“You're so immature Envy!” I screamed, lunging at him only for him to push me back by my face, disorienting me. I fell back and would've hit the floor if he didn't spear me and picked me up I've this shoulder. I cried out, the air knocked out of my lungs as he paraded me around the living area, laughing boisterously.

“I win!” He exclaimed, tossing me into the carpet and all but doggy piling me. He pinned me down like in WWE and yelled, “You got three seconds, surrender or else!” He said. I groaned, my head was killing me and I felt dizzy.

“T-too rough Envy,” I gasped, trying to push him off of me. He leapt off of me once he realized I was being serious, his expression sheepish.

“Sorry..” he looked away from me, wincing slightly once he heard how I was practically gasping for air. “I-I’ll get your inhaler.” He stood up and practically ran into the bedroom to retrieve my inhaler, sitting me up against his chest and bringing it to my lips. I took two puffs, breathing deep and slow as I tried to catch my breath.

I wasn't mad at Envy for roughhousing with me, I started it in the first place. I was more angry with how weak my body was. I hate having asthma.

After I had caught my breath we moved the last few things into the bus and officially said goodbye to the apartment. I stayed in the bus while Envy finalized everything with the landlord.

I couldn't believe this was real. I was certain that any second I'd wake up and realize this was just a big dream. But no matter how much I pinched myself or blinked my eyes really hard, I don't wake up. I guess I should be glad about that.

“You ready doll?” Envy asked, snapping me out of my reverie. He was getting into the front seat. I found myself bouncing in my seat in excitement, this was really happening.

“Yeah, I'm ready, V,” I whispered, causing him to look over at me with a goofy grin before he put the key into the ignition and started the bus.

I was never the type to call Envy a nickname, his name was already short so it didn't need one. Though Envy was obsessed with finding new things to call me and wanted me to give him a nickname as well. I couldn't think of one that fit him. Calling him baby didn't fit, even though he could be a big baby at times. None of the general romantic nicknames fit him so I was stumped for a while. That is until I settled on just calling the third letter in his name. Well, this was the first time actually testing out the nickname. I had it picked out for a few weeks now but only decided now was the time to use it.

“Aw, dolly, you really are a woman after my own heart.” Envy mused, pulling the bus out of the parking space and taking us out of the apartment complex and onto the road. I looked out at the buildings we passed with wide eyes. This was probably the last time we'd be driving through this area for a long time. Hell, we'd probably never come back.

Where are we going?” I asked, turning to look at his face. He glanced at me briefly before shrugging.

“This is your dream, Fer-bear, where do you want to go?” He said, removing one hand from the wheel to motion towards the road in front of us. “We can go anywhere that's drivable, just say the word and I'll get us there.”

I smiled at him, a wide toothy grin I couldn't stop even if I tried. Gosh, I loved this man. “Let me think for a second, ok!” I chuckled, shaking my head slightly. “First let's go visit Yogi and tell her we're leaving. She's gonna flip out.” I rolled my eyes slightly.

Yogi is my best friend. We have been friends since the 6th grade. Ever since I moved to the US in the 6th grade, she's been there by my side. She saw my highest highs and lowest lows. I was there holding her hand when she had little Katsume. Hell, I held him before his dad did.

She is my sister, not by blood but by choice, and I would never do something this extreme without telling her. She'd never allow it.

Envy groaned, turning to take us down the road that led to the Lobi compound. I punched his shoulder lightly, not approving of his audible dislike of Yogi. For some reason the two most important people in my life couldn't stand each other. They were like oil and water.

It took a few minutes before we turned off the main road and down the dirt path which led to the Lobi compound. The dirt path stretched on for a minute or so before we reached the compound. It was a massive plot of land littered with colourful tents and trailers arranged around one massive tent. Yogi had married into a family of circus performers, a long rich lineage that was as proud as they were popular. They were a staple you had to visit whenever you were in the state.

We stepped out of the bus and instantly the cutest little boy ran out from one of the trailers. “Auntie Fewo!” He babbled, stumbling towards me as I swooped down to lift him.

“Hi Katsume! I missed you.” I cooed, nuzzling into the little boy’s cheek. He was getting so big! He was only three years old but I remember holding him for the first time and realizing how tiny he was. He'd always be a baby to me. “How did you know it was me? I didn't even say anything yet.” I tickled him lightly, enjoying the sound of his laughter.

Katsume was born without eyes. There were complications in the womb that affected his development. Thankfully the only things it affected was his missing eyes and cleft palate. The cleft palate was dealt with when he was one and it was only a few months ago when the doctors made glass eyes for him to wear. They were painted blue like most of the Lobis, blue eyes and white hair ran in the family.

“The circus is closed today and you're the only one who visits us. It had to be you Auntie!” He explained, smiling widely. He was so proud of himself.

“You little detective, you,” I cooed, tickling him again. He squealed, squirming in my arms and giggling. I relented after a few seconds, letting him down on the ground. Envy came from around the bus to stand next to me. Katsume lifted his head up at him and smiled, waving at him. Envy patted his head gently before turning towards the compound, Yogi was coming over.

She was a tall skinny woman as pale and blonde as they come with the biggest green eyes I'd ever seen. Yogi could be the meanest person ever when you needed her to be and she could also be the sweetest. She was always so supportive of me in whatever I did, though she wasn't afraid to say her opinion on things. The biggest thing she didn't like was my relationship with Envy, for reasons I don't really understand. Her disagreement was only verbal, she never made a big fuss about it and so I never really put too much thought into it. They didn't like each other but could tolerate each other in my presence and that was fine with me.

Most girls would prefer their girl best friend and their boyfriend to not like each other.

“Ferrow!” Yogi yelled out, her tone snapping me out of my thoughts. She was standing a little ways in front of me, Katsume was wiggling in her arms, her eyes were locked onto the bus behind me and Envy. “W-what is that?” She pointed at the bus, struggling to contain her wiggly son before she sighed and placed him on the ground, allowing him to run around.

“This is our new bus! Isn't she pretty?” I grinned, pointing at our bus as I walked over to Yogi.

She looked at me in shock and slight anger, her eyebrow twitched ever so slightly before she looked over at Envy and glared at him in greeting. “What the hell is this?” She seethed, “Ferrow said you two were barely making rent and yet you buy a bus!”

Envy scoffed, rolling his eyes. “Calm down, if you wasn't jumping to conclusions you'd know that...

And this is where I left off... I like to post whatever I have, even if it isn't done. Idk ^^. I'll come back and finish it one day.
